Earthquakes
2 September 1886: Earthquake shocks were again felt at
Smithville. Three shocks occurred: one at 1:00 AM, 8:30 AM, and 10:00
AM. No damage was done beyond the destruction of some crockery. The
tide seemed higher than usual, but there was no great agitation in the
water.(Reeves 1978:90)
11 November 1886: Glassware rattled and buildings were shaken as
another earthquake shock was felt at Smithville. The shock was quite
severe, sending residents running from their houses with concern.(Reeves 1978:90)
